Samsung has without doubt the world's most popular electronics brand since 2005. Samsung Electronics saw a profit revenue in 2005 took over Sony as one of the most popular electronics company in the world, ranked at No. 19 worldwide. Samsung was originally founded by Lee Byung-Chull in 1938 in South Korea with 40 employees and by 1953 Lee Byung-Chull went on to make Samsung an industry leader ie Samsung Electronics. Samsung created the first Black & White television in the 1980s. Samsung then went on to build in 1995 its first LCD screen, Samsung grew to become the world's largest manufacturer of LCD panels. Sony then contacted Samsung to cooperate and in 2006 S-LCD was formed as a joint venture between Samsung and Sony creating a stable supply of LCD panels for both manufacturer. S-LCD is owned by both Samsung (51%) and Sony (49%). Samsung accounts for little over 20% of South Korea's exports, Samsung's revenue is as large as some country's total GDP and if ranked would be the 34th largest economy in the world.
