Canon has always associated itself with imaging and optical products, Canon has a wide portfolio that includes cameras, photocopiers, steppers and printers. Canon's predecessor Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory founded Canon Inc. in 1937. Canon went on to create the world's first camcorder with zoom lens in 1959. Canon was originally named Kwanon back in 1934 with a prototype for Japan's first ever 35mm camera sporting a focal plane shutter.
